Safety Product Guide

The first thing law enforcement and emergency personnel are trained to look for when they encounter someone is a medical alert bracelet or other identification.

We recommend that all individuals with special needs wear an ID bracelet or other identification product, particularly those that are young, non-verbal or have trouble remembering.  Following are some sources for these products for your reference that you may find helpful.

Medical ID Bracelets

Silver, gold filled or 14K gold bracelets, pendants and watch charms.  Free repair and re-engraving if necessary.

Child Bracelets (pictured) and adult bracelets with optional medical symbols and designs.  Online ordering only.

MedicAlert - www.medicalert.com or 888-633-4298
MedicAlert has a large selection of medical symbol emblems available in stainless steel, gold and sterling silver.  You can attach the emblems to bracelets, necklaces or sports bands in a variety of styles.  They also carry designer beaded bracelets.  MedicAlert emblems work a little differently than other identification products because instead of having the individual’s name, address and telephone, the emblems are engraved with the individual’s MedicAlert Member ID, primary medical conditions and MedicAlert’s 24-Hour Emergency Response Center number.

Special note:  A teal-colored medical symbol representing Alzheimer’s disease is available as part of a partnership with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.

Sometimes people dislike wearing jewelry but still need an ID.  Or, your special person may need a wearable ID when wallet IDs aren’t practical such as at the beach.  These are good options.

Location Identifiers

Project Lifesaver - use this link to see if Project Lifesaver is available in your area.  In Santa Clarita, see this website for further information.

If Project Lifesaver is not available, or for occasional use such as in public places, the ion Kids Monitoring System can help you find the location of a person if they wander away.

ion Kids Monitoring System- www.ion-kids.com or 888-8-IONKIDS (1-888-846-6543)

The ionKids system allows you to monitor up to four people or tagged objects at once. Children, seniors, pets or anything you might lose and want to keep safe. The system consists of a base unit, a handheld device that allows parents to monitor up to four tags simultaneously and a wrist tag. Tag holders can be purchased separately and can be clipped onto belt loops or lanyards; wrist tags can be locked on children's wrists. ionKids lets you set a variable zone around the base unit so you will know when your child wanders to far. If you can't find them, use the locating device and let it show you where to go to find them.  Range is 350 feet outdoors and 200 feet indoors.

Communication Tools

“I Need Help®” communication bracelets help the wearer communicate when in public.  One side says “I Need Help” and icons to express feelings and needs are on the other side.  There are different styles for medical issues, special diet and more.  See this link for more information.
